Wicomico County Habitat for Humanity was founded in 1987. Since then, Habitat has built 66 homes and completed 8 neighborhood revitalization projects. In 2004, the mayor of Salisbury asked Habitat to focus in the Church Street neighborhood. Habitat agreed and began building there in 2006. 13 of our 66 homes are in that neighborhood and since then crime has been down 48%. Habitat is currently building their 65th and 66st homes, renovating another home recently received back, and supporting two community gardens in Church Street. Habitat also owns sixteen more lots in that neighborhood that will be developed and sold to partner families. With over 30 years of service, 10,000 volunteers, and seven million dollars invested in the community, Habitat continues to improve living conditions for low income families and address the “aging in place” issues faced by inner city homeowners.
