Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative.

Introduction.

Our Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative is designed to pursue Habitat for Humanity’s strategic imperative of helping to transform and strengthen communities so that those who reside in them will be able to live and grow into all that God intends for them.

Under the Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative umbrella we have the Roof & Repair Program, the Aging-In-Place Program and the Brush with Kindness Program.

Our goal is to help existing homeowners with critical home repairs, aging-in-place modifications and exterior home maintenance with those who are unable to sustain their property due to physical limitations or the fact they do not qualify for financing through a traditional lending institution.

About Our Neighborhood Revitalization Programs.

Habitat for Humanity of Wicomico County has several need-based grant and loan programs for low- income homeowners living in Wicomico and Somerset Counties. Our goal is to match each individual homeowner with the program that best meets their needs and situations. Homeowners are encouraged to apply and are served, to the best of our abilities, on a first come first served bases.

Grants may or may not have to be repaid. Each program has its own unique qualifications. Whether deferred for a specified number of years with no payment component or deferred until the owner dies, each program dictates the terms.
Low and no interest loans are available. Program requirements vary. Example; if the total cost of a new roof is $10,000.00, the monthly payment on a 0% interest loan at 120 months would be $84 and at 240 months would be $42. Payment terms are determined on an individual basis.

Section 504 USDA / Rural Development Loans and Grants.

Currently the USDA Rural Housing Authority offers grants of up to $7500 with no repayment as long as the homeowner continues to live on their property. Up to $20,000 in a low-interest loan is also available. The applicant/homeowner must be 62 years or older, live in the home and the home must be located in a rural area. USDA makes all final decisions on applicants. We are an official packager for the USDA 504 Grant/Loan program.
