The Community Outreach Committee seeks to strengthen the support of the affiliate’s work by gaining volunteers, financial support, partnerships, and community advocates. The members will seek opportunities to speak and give presentations at local clubs, organizations, church services, and group meetings, and to encourage the members to join construction days.
This committee seeks to welcome new families into the Habitat family and to provide them with a mutual support system, educational opportunities and a forum for discussions regarding homeownership and relevant Habitat policies and procedures. A member from this committee will be assigned as a family friend helping the family to stay on track with classes, sweat equity and closing costs. Assistance is also provided for choices concerning the construction of their home and procedures for maintenance after occupancy.
This committee reviews all applicants for a Habitat home. The Family Selection Committee guides the selection process for a Partner Family. The team believes and insists on nondiscriminatory family selection criteria for all homeowner families. Race, color, ethnic origin, religion, gender and family composition are not factors considered in the selection process
The Purpose of the Construction Committee is to manage the construction details of all the builds and to assure quality of construction and timely delivery according to the Board approved project timeline.
The Development Committee is responsible for planning and implementing Wicomico Habitat’s annual fundraising strategy. This includes helping with campaigns, mailings, and appeals, as well as assisting with planning and executing fundraising events such as Habitat’s signature gourmet gala, Chefs for Habitat (which was voted the area’s best fundraising event of 2019 by Coastal Style).
The Site Selection Committee works to define neighborhoods and communities where the affiliate should work and finds available land to build on in those areas. Tasks include working with city offices, neighborhood associations, and property owners.
