Dreaming of a safe place for your children to grow up in should not be a dream, it should be reality, for everyone. Single father Steven Hayes wanted his three kids to grow up with an opportunity to grow. With Habitat for Humanity, our mission is to help hardworking individuals have a safe place to call home.

We asked Steven how Habitat has impacted him and his family. “To start off, I never thought I would be a homeowner, or even know anything about being a homeowner. It has definitely impacted my family by giving us a new mindset, something I can pass down to my children, land and my house. It has definitely made a great impact to help me to have a nice and affordable mortgage rate; I’ve been able to take that time and actually start a business for myself.” Steven has been a Habitat homeowner since 2016 and has used the time and money he has saved to start his own construction company, SBH Home Improvements LLC.

Mr. Hayes is a perfect example of a Habitat homeowner. He is hardworking and wants to better his life for himself and his three kids. When we asked him what made him become a Habitat Homeowner, he replied, “At the time with my living situation and my credit score, Habitat made it accessible for me to become a homeowner. It really is a great program.”
